Compression fittings are used in plumbing to join copper tube together and in some cases can be used where the 2 pipes are made of different materials for example copper and plastic tube. Compression fittings are also used for hot and cold water taps as these are usually located in tight spaces where copper pipe would be difficult to solder.
They are very reliable fittings, and are used massively in the plumbing world. The fittings are very popular because they do not need soldering, so they can be used when soldering instruments cannot be used due to fire hazards. They are quicker and easier to use than endfeed and solder ring fitting and require no special tools or skills to fit.
These fittings are available in various sizes and can be brass or chrome plated.
